By purchasing advertising space in Barbed, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
1. Advertising Philosophy
We only accept advertising from individuals, organizations, or institutions whose values are in alignment with Barbed’s ethos: care, criticality, artistic freedom, and integrity. We reserve the right to decline any advertisement that feels out of sync with our publication, without the obligation to provide further explanation.
2. Use of Funds
All revenue from advertising goes directly toward the production and distribution of Barbed, and to supporting the artists featured within each issue. Advertising helps fund printing costs, artist fees, release gathering events, during production, and shipping.
3. Format & Placement
Ad space is sold per issue. Placement within the issue is determined by the editorial team and is not guaranteed to be on a specific page unless explicitly stated in writing. Specs and deadlines for image and text materials will be shared upon confirmation.
4. Publication Schedule
Barbed does not operate on a fixed publishing calendar. We publish when we are ready — when the work and resources are in place. By purchasing ad space, you acknowledge that there may be a delay between payment and publication. We will keep all advertisers informed of our timeline and progress.
5. Design Responsibility
Advertisers are responsible for submitting complete ad materials by the agreed-upon deadline. If you need assistance with ad design, we can offer recommendations for collaborators, but Barbed does not provide in-house design services for advertisements unless otherwise arranged.
6. Refund Policy
Advertising fees are non-refundable unless Barbed is unable to print the issue in which your advertisement was confirmed. In such a case, you will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer your ad to a future issue.
7. Proof of Print
All advertisers will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which their advertisement appears.
8. Respect for Boundaries
Advertising in Barbed is not a form of editorial influence. We maintain a clear boundary between advertising and editorial content. Your support is valued, but it does not grant creative input or placement decisions within the issue beyond your advertisement.
